Biola University Senior Janine Marderian Received Sixth Annual Ruby Award for Outstanding Leadership

Northridge Native Marderian was Only Student out of Four Women to Receive a Ruby Award this Year

LA MIRADA, CA (04/11/2013)(readMedia)-- Northridge, Calif. native Janine Marderian received a Ruby Award from Biola University for leadership and wisdom. Marderian, graduating class of 2013, won the "Deborah Ruby Award for Leadership and Wisdom". Students and faculty enjoyed a three-course luncheon while four women were each presented with a different award. This was the 6th annual Ruby awards, held last Wednesday - the first being during Biola's centennial year in 2008, and is held in honor of National Women's History Month.

Marderian served as the Associated Student's president in 2011-2012. She has been a member of Biola University's Torrey Honors Institute since her freshman year at Biola. After running for dorm representative during her freshman year, Marderian became involved with student leadership until her eventual presidency with AS in 2011. Currently, Marderian, a senior at Biola, is involved with the President's Circle, a group of friends and alumni that support Biola through prayer, volunteering, and donations. Marderian said in an email that she felt honored and that the award was a very special way to end her time at Biola. She is currently engaged and will be married two days after graduation in May.

Other women awarded this year included Biola staff or donors, and Marderian became the only student to be given an award this year.

Ruby awards are given to Biola affiliated women who exemplify godly traits. The Deborah Ruby Award is a distinct award designated for women who play a vital and dynamic role in the lives of students at Biola and are committed to supporting their educational and spiritual journey.
