Biola Volleyball Lands Transfer From Northwest University

LA MIRADA, CA (05/22/2014)(readMedia)-- After two seasons at Northwest University in Washington, Ashton Arbuthnot decided it was time for a change of scenery and decided to try out some Southern California volleyball by committing to play her final two seasons at Biola.

Arbuthnot entered Biola this spring, and she will begin her volleyball career for Biola in the fall. She is a setter who averaged just over eight assists per set in 41 matches for the Northwest Eagles.

She gained athletic and academic notoriety in her two seasons in the Pacific Northwest, earning NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors and the title of Cascade Collegiate Conference Setter of the Week."

"We tried to get Ashton right out of high school and it just didn't work out, so we are so happy that everything worked out now after she circled back around with us," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "She's been a setter her whole life and does a really good job of setting middles, which works really well for us."

Arbuthnot played three years of varsity volleyball at Rogers High School prior to her stint at Northwest. She was a two-time captain and team MVP and was named all-league second team. Her play turned the heads of the local media, as she gained the title of Tacoma News Tribune Player of the Week.

She led her team to the state tournament and was consistent enough in the classroom to get named a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Scholar-Athlete.

"Biola has a very competitive volleyball program with a great group of girls and great coaching staff," said Arbuthnot. "I connected immediately with all of the girls and coaches and knew I wanted to be a part of it. Biola is a great school overall, and I am excited to spend my next couple of years here."

Arbuthnot is a kinesiology major and should see a bunch of time on the court for the Eagles when they open play in August.
