ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (02/02/2016)(readMedia)-- Black History Month, an annual remembrance of important people and events in the history of African Americans, has been celebrated in February since 1976.

This year, in honor of the celebration, Elizabethtown College is screening the film "42," the theatrical story of Jackie Robinson at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15. The film, shown in Gibble auditorium, follows Robinson from his signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers organization in 1945 to his historic 1947 rookie season when he broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, the College hosts "Harlem Nights – Exploring the Harlem Renaissance." The College's Susquehanna Room becomes the "Harlem Lounge" where students and staff participate in an artistic exploration of the African-American Harlem Renaissance including guest performances, open-mic sessions and free mock-tails/snacks.
