Blackshear's Locke Earns Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award from Mercer

MACON, GA (06/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Mercer University awarded Jordan Locke, of Blackshear, the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, one of its highest awards for undergraduates. Locke received the award at Mercer's commencement on May 12, where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Mercer's Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics and a Bachelor of Science in sociology from the College of Liberal Arts. He is the son of Ed and Sonya Locke of Blackshear.
"I was surprised and excited to hear that I was chosen to receive the Sullivan Award," said Locke. "I am thankful for all of the opportunities that Mercer has afforded me. It is undoubtedly an honor to receive such an award and have my name likened to the many impressive and notable individuals who have received it in the past."
Locke held multiple leadership roles while at Mercer University. He was an integral member on the Student Government Association where he served as the co-chairman of the Heritage Life Committee as well as a Macon Connections Chairman. Locke served as student body president for 2011-2012.
At the University's 2012 Honors Convocation, Locke also took home a number of awards, including the Alpha Kappa Delta Outstanding Senior Award, Alpha Kappa Delta Senior Service Award and the Outstanding Marketing Major Award.
Locke has served on the Dean's Study Advisory Board of the Stetson School of Business and Economics, was a MAPS guide-student teacher, a Mercer Ambassador and a peer advisor. He has served on the student athletic marketing advisory committee and sophomore advisory board. Locke is also a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he served as philanthropy chairman. He was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society, Alpha Kappa Delta international sociology honor society and Phi Eta Sigma academic honor society. Locke is also a recipient of the Thelma Ross Spirit Award.
Locke travelled to Beijing, China, following graduation and is teaching English through Mercer's Service First program.
About the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award
The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award is presented to the graduating student who best exemplifies excellence in character, leadership, service to the community and commitment to spiritual values. This award was established by The New York Southern Society in 1925, and at Mercer University in 1926, in memory of Sullivan, a great humanitarian and philanthropist.
