Boston Woman Inducted into the Oswego Athletic Hall of Fame
OSWEGO, NY (10/31/2011)(readMedia)-- Diane Gilligan of Boston, a 1985 graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego, will be honored for her achievements in women's field hockey.
Gilligan will be inducted into the Oswego Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday, Nov. 12, in the Hewitt Union Ballroom on the SUNY Oswego campus. The Oswego Alumni Association will sponsor a 12:30 p.m. reception and 1 p.m. luncheon -- reservation deadline is Nov. 4 -- and the college will recognize the inductees at a 7 p.m. men's ice hockey game in the Campus Center arena.
Gilligan played for the Oswego women's field hockey team from 1981 to 1984. She was the all-time leading scorer with 162 points on 67 goals and 28 assists. Gilligan produced the top three individual goal-scoring seasons in program history from 1982 to 1984. She also had four of the top five season point totals in school history from 1981 to 1984. She also played on the women's ice hockey team for two of her years at Oswego.
Gilligan has served as a volunteer with Hockey Fights Cancer, the Leary Firefighters Foundation, the Maple Leafs Team-Up Foundation and as fundraising chair of The Jimmy Fund.
The cost of the Athletic Hall of Fame reception is $25 per person. Donors are encouraged to sponsor student athletes to attend the luncheon. Attendees should RSVP by Nov. 4 at oswego.edu/alumni or by calling 315-312-2258.
