Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, JATC, Local No. 1 Recruit Various Apprentices
LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (02/25/2010)(readMedia)-- The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers JATC, Local Union #1, will conduct a recruitment from February 26, 2010 through January 28, 2011 for ten stone mason apprentices; fifteen pointer, cleaner, and caulker apprentices; twenty bricklayer apprentices; and ten plasterer apprentices, Acting State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.
Applications can be obtained and filled out at International Masonry Institute, 12-07 44th Ave, Long Island City, NY, on 2/26/10, 3/26/10, 4/30/10, 5/28/10, 6/25/10, 9/24/10, 10/29/10, 11/19/10, 12/17/10 and 1/28/11. Doors open at 8:00 a.m., there will be no admittance after 8:30 a.m. and processing will be until 10:00 a.m. No applications will be accepted by mail.
The Committee requires that applicants:
• Must be 18 years old. Proof required at time of selection (birth certificate, state issued drivers license, or any state or federal ID showing date of birth).
• Must have sufficient reading and math comprehension skills to satisfactorily complete on the job training and related technical instruction as determined by exam given with applications.
• Must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others as determined in interview and pre-employment program.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
