ALBANY, NY (10/26/2009)(readMedia)--

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced bridge inspections will necessitate lane closures in both the northbound and southbound directions on the Normans Kill Bridge, just south of Interchange 23 (Downtown Albany I-787/Route 9W) beginning on Tuesday, October 27 through Friday, October 30, 2009. During the inspections, motorists may experience minor delays.

On Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., Thruway Authority maintenance crews will be closing the right southbound lane, from milepost 142.3, just north of Interchange 23, to milepost 141.3, just south of Interchange 23. This closure will impact southbound traffic on the mainline of the Thruway as well as traffic exiting and entering at Interchange 23.

On Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., Thruway Authority maintenance crews will be closing the right northbound lane, from milepost 140.3, just south of Interchange 23 to milepost 141.3. This closure will impact northbound traffic on the mainline of the Thruway near Interchange 23.

The Authority will activate its Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) in advance of the area as well as its Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) to provide motorists with notice of the inspections and required lane closures.

Motorists are reminded to remain alert and aware of their surroundings while traveling through the work zone. Motorists should also keep in mind that speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

The Authority appreciates motorists' patience and understanding while these essential inspections take place.
