Brit McKenzie Honored at Hampden-Sydney College Graduation

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/14/2013)(readMedia)-- On May 12, at commencement ceremonies marking the end of the 238th academic year at Hampden-Sydney College, John Brittain McKenzie, Class of 2013 (left), received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Medallion. The award was presented by Dr. Christopher B. Howard, President of Hampden-Sydney College. The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Medallion is given annually by the New York Southern Society in honor of its first president, Algernon Sydney Sullivan. This award is given to a member of the graduating class distinguished for excellence of character and generous service to his fellows.

McKenzie served as President of the Student Government this year and previously as Chairman of the College Activities Committee. He is a member of the Pre-Law Society, the Society of '91 (leadership program), Ducks Unlimited, the Clay Target Club, and the social fraternity Sigma Chi. He was recognized for student leadership in the 2012 edition of Who's Who Among Students in Universities and Colleges. Graduating with a B.A. in government, McKenzie is the son of Julie & Ken McKenzie of New York, previously of Rogers, AR.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
