Brittany Shields Named WBCA Honorable Mention All-American

PLEASANTVILLE, NY (03/20/2012)(readMedia)-- Senior forward Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) was named Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) Honorable Mention All-American after an stand-out season for Pace. Shields was also recently a Northeast-10 Conference First Team All-Conference selection as well as a Daktronics Second Team East Region selection.

Shields led the Setters with 17 points and 10 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.7% from the field on the season. She also posted 12 double-doubles this year. Shields ranks fourth in the NE-10 in scoring, second in rebounds, 12th in field goal percentage and third in double-doubles. She currently ranks 25th in the nation in rebounds, 49th in scoring, 40th in field goal percentage and 26th in double-doubles.

She was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll 11 times this season. Shields was previously named the NE-10 Rookie of the Year in 2008-09 and was an NE-10 Second Team selection last season. The 5-10 forward started the first three games of the season with three consecutive double-doubles and finished the season with twelve overall.

Shields set a career-high of 17 rebounds against New Haven on February 4. She reached 1,000 career points in a victory over Adelphi on December 6 to become the 25th player to join the 1,000-career point club for Pace University. She currently ranks seventh place in school history with 1,323 points and ranks 11th in rebounds in Pace history with 771 rebounds for her career.

Shields helped lead the Setters to a third place finish in the conference at 20-9 overall record and 16-6 in the conference. The Setters were selected to their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament as the #4 seed this season.
