Brittany Shields Named to NE-10 First Team All-Conference
PLEASANTVILLE, NY (02/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Senior forward Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team as selected by the 16 coaches of the NE-10. Shields currently leads the team with 17.6 points per game and 9.9 rebounds this season.
Shields ranks fourth in the NE-10 in scoring and third in rebounds, while placing tenth in field goal percentage as she is shooting 51.5% on the season. She was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll 11 times this season. Shields was previously named the NE-10 Rookie of the Year in 2008-09 and was an NE-10 Second Team selection last season. The 5-10 forward started the first three games of the season with three consecutive double-doubles and finished the season with twelve overall. She is third in the conference in double-doubles, while tying for 17th in the nation in Division II.
Shields recently set a career-high of 17 rebounds against New Haven on February 4. She reached 1,000 career points in a victory over Adelphi on December 6 to become the 25th player to join the 1,000-career point club for Pace University. She currently ranks 11th in Pace's women's basketball history with 749 rebounds and ranks ninth all-time in scoring with 1,303 points. She is seven points away from eighth place and trails seventh place by 12 points.
Shields helped lead the Setters to a third place finish in the conference at 19-7 overall and 16-6 in the conference. The Setters are also ranked fourth in this week's NCAA East Region Poll as the top-8 teams will be selected to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The Setters are back in action as they will host Assumption College in the Quarterfinal Round of the NE-10 Championship at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Sunday, February 26 at 1 pm. Come out and support the Setters as compete in the NE-10 Playoffs.
