Broad Coalition Mobilizes to Support Wine in Groceries

Grassroots Movement Champions Farmers, Wineries and Consumers;Mom and Pop Retailers Rally To Increase Competition throughout New York

ALBANY, NY (02/23/2009)(readMedia)-- A broad grassroots coalition representing New York farmers, grocers, wineries, community organizations, environmental NGOs and businesses of all sizes will join in Albany to voice their support for a state proposal allowing the sale of wine in grocery stores.

The proposal will generate $160 million in the first two years alone while saving consumers $80 million per year and driving economic opportunity in New York's agricultural industry.

A recent survey of New York voters conducted by Kiley & Company shows that a vast majority of New Yorkers support the proposal, at a rate of 2 to 1.
