POTSDAM, NY (04/01/2015)(readMedia)-- Community Performance Series will conclude its 25th Guest Artist Series season when Broadway superstar Audra McDonald takes the stage at SUNY Potsdam on April 11.

The highly anticipated performance will take place on Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall at The Crane School of Music. This performance was made possible with support from the Maresca Visiting Artist Fund.

Audra McDonald is unparalleled in the breadth and versatility of her artistry, as both a singer and an actress. With a record six Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards, and a long list of other accolades to her name, she is among today's most highly regarded performers. Blessed with a luminous soprano voice and an incomparable gift for dramatic truth telling, she is equally at home on Broadway and opera stages, as she is in roles on film and television. In addition to her theatrical work, she maintains a major career as a concert and recording artist, regularly appearing on the great stages of the world.

For her performance in Potsdam, McDonald will be joined by music director and pianist, Andy Einhorn. The duo will entertain what is expected to be a packed house, with favorite show tunes and songs from her new album, "Go Back Home" -- her most personal recording to date. She will announce her set from the stage.

This performance was made possible thanks to the Maresca Visiting Artist Fund. With their gift to SUNY Potsdam's Take the Lead Campaign, Michael and Barbara Maresca have established this fund to bring world class performances and arts education opportunities to audiences of all ages. The Marescas are extremely proud of the culture of arts in the North Country, and as generous patrons of the arts and arts education, they continue to support extraordinary performances and cultural activities for Potsdam and the surrounding communities that might not otherwise be possible.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to have Audra performing for CPS as the first Maresca Visiting Artist. Her celebrated career exemplifies the world-class artistry that CPS has become known for, a reputation that inspired the Marescas to so generously endow their visiting artist fund. Tickets have sold very well for this performance and we expect a full house, so please don't wait to get your seats," said CPS Executive Director Amy Flack.

Single tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased in person at the CPS Box Office, located in SUNY Potsdam's new Performing Arts Center, or by calling (315) 267-2277. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.cpspotsdam.org.

The box office will be open in the lobby of Hosmer Hall one hour prior to performance time. However, waiting to purchase tickets is not recommended, due to the popularity of the event.
