Bronx River Alliance + NYC Parks to Host Foragers in the Foodway

Foragers in the Foodway is a free biweekly series at the Bronx's only edible food forest

BRONX, NY (06/24/2026) (readMedia)-- On Saturday, at Concrete Plant Park, the Bronx River Alliance and NYC Parks will host Foragers in the Foodway, where NYC foragers and herbalists will teach participants how to identify wild and cultivated edible and medicinal plant species at the Bronx River Foodway - the borough's sole edible food forest. The Foodway is home to medicinal plants like echinacea, native berries, chestnut trees, and kitchen herbs and vegetables. Participants will also learn ways to preserve and use their seasonal harvests.

Roughly 1 in 3 Bronx children faces food insecurity and in neighborhoods like Belmont and East Tremont, bodegas outnumber supermarkets 37 to 1, limiting residents' access to fresh, nutritious foods. Developed in 2017 by NYC Parks, the Foodway is a pilot effort to weave a sustainable food landscape into a public park, and help inspire local communities to find new solutions to enhance food accessibility. Foragers in the Foodway is a biweekly series supported by New York State Agriculture and markets, running June through September.
