Bronx River Alliance to Host 25th Anniversary Flotilla With 5-Mile Paddle Along NYC's Last Freshwater River
Bronx River Alliance will celebrate 25 years of restoring NYC's last freshwater river at its 2026 annual flotilla, this year featuring a special extended 5-mile community paddle
BRONX, NY (05/15/2026) (readMedia)-- On Saturday, the Bronx River Alliance invites New Yorkers to its annual flotilla, honoring 25 years of restoring and defending New York City's only remaining major freshwater river with a special 5-mile community paddle ending at Hunts Point Riverside Park, followed by a Golden Ball Celebration featuring food, drinks, and music. The flotilla will raise funds for free and low-cost community paddles for over 1,000 Bronx children and families.
The Bronx River spans 23 miles total and is buffered by a critical section of old-growth forest called Thain Family Forest. The flotilla route will take paddlers directly beneath the Cross Bronx Expressway, which awaits a final design decision under the state Department of Transportation's Cross Bronx 5 Bridges pending project.
