Bronx Students Spread the Message of Democracy Through Service!

NEW YORK, NY (06/02/2008)(readMedia)-- On Friday, June 6, 2008, over 800 middle school students from MS 391 and IS 313 will gather to demonstrate how they made a difference in their communities through service. Through a year-long collaboration with Children for Children and Zaner Bloser, students have used the VOICES character education curriculum and Grow Involved® Service-Learning Kit to elevate their reading achievement while learning the meaning and importance of civic engagement.

At this event, students will celebrate and reflect on their service experience while participating in an array of hands-on service projects such as:

  • Decorating flower pots and planting flower seeds for senior citizens
  • Making New York City coloring books for elementary youth
  • Designing mugs for soldiers overseas
  • Painting murals for school beautification
