Brooklyn resident Penney Beaubrun wins outstanding student achievement awards at Connecticut College
NEW LONDON, CT (05/16/2011)(readMedia)-- Penney Beaubrun, a senior at Connecticut College, was awarded the following awards:
• Barbara E. Gurwitz '88 Memorial Award, which is offered by family and friends to a senior who, in striving for excellence in his or her chosen direction, inspires the best qualities in everyone whose life he or she touches; a perceptive, spirited and caring friend.
• Human Development Award in Undergraduate Research, which is given to the student who has demonstrated the ability to uphold the values of the liberal arts through extraordinary intellectual curiosity and consistent academic excellence in research within the Human Development Major.
• Janet Foster RTC '80 Senior Award, offered to a graduating student of color in recognition of outstanding service to the Connecticut College community.
Beaubrun was presented with the awards at the annual Honors and Awards ceremony at Connecticut College on April 27.
Beaubrun, a 2007 graduate of High School for Environmental Studies, is the daughter of Marie Beaubrun of Brooklyn and Jimmy Beaubrun of Haiti.
At the ceremony, Timo V. Ovaska, Hans and Ella McCollum '21 Vahlteich Professor of Chemistry, gave the keynote address. Dean of the College Community Armando Bengochea and Dean of the Faculty Roger Brooks also congratulated the students.
