Bundt Cakes Win Awards at State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (09/16/2024) (readMedia)-- Belinda Myers of Osceola won first place and a $40 cash award in the We Like Big Bundts - Cake Mix Fix Ups class judged Sunday, August 11, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Olivia Smith of Winterset earned second place and a $20 cash award. Mary Burr of Iowa City claimed third place and a $10 cash award.

In the Scratch Cakes class, Susan Desmond of Urbandale won first place and a $40 cash award.

Susan Ford of Des Moines earned second place and a $20 cash award, and Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines claimed third place and a $10 cash award.

Entries were judged on taste/texture and presentation.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were140 divisions, 726 classes and nearly 6,400 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
