MANKATO, MN (11/21/2008)(readMedia)-- The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) is proud to announce that Ron Bunjer of Arco, Minn. has been elected to serve as Minnesota's fifth director on the American Soybean Association (ASA.) MSGA recently earned the additional position by meeting their membership goal of 3,551.

"While other state associations are losing ground in the area of membership, Minnesota's recruiters and Membership Committee have been working tirelessly to keep our program growing," said Larry Muff, MSGA President and soybean grower from Waseca County. "I am proud of what our state association has accomplished in the past year and know that Ron will do an excellent job bringing our messages forward at the national level."

The increase in membership also gives MSGA more delegates (a total of 21) at the 2009 Commodity Classic in Grapevine, Tx. This is an increase of three from 2008.

Bunjer, a soybean farmer from Lincoln County, was first elected to the MSGA Board in 2005. He has served on the International Marketing, Domestic Marketing and Research & Tech Transfer Committees. He says he is looking forward to helping membership grow at the national level and continuing to work on policy issues affecting soybean farmers.

Bunjer takes his seat immediately and will officially represent Minnesota at ASA's board meeting in December.

ASA is the policy advocate and collective voice of its 24,000 producer-members on domestic and international issues of importance to all U.S. soybean farmers. ASA directors are elected by state boards to represent their membership at the national level. Minnesota currently has four directors who each serve a term of three years.

The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association is a non-profit, farmer-controlled membership organization established in 1962. Its goal is to assure profitable soybean farming by monitoring government policies and supporting research and market development activities.
