PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/22/2010)(readMedia)-- C. Alix Timko, PhD, was recently named assistant professor of psychology in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at University of the Sciences' Misher College of Arts and Sciences.

Upon receiving her bachelor's degree in Psychology & German from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, Timko pursued her masters in clinical psychology from MCP Hahnemann University and her PhD in clinical psychology from Drexel University in Philadelphia. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Center for Counseling and Student Development at the University of Delaware and her post-doctoral residency at the Renfrew Center of Philadelphia, a residential facility that specializes in women with eating disorders. In 2007, she joined the faculty at Towson University teaching in both the clinical and counseling graduate programs.

As a clinical psychologist and researcher, Dr. Timko's interests include the treatment and prevention of eating disorders (particularly anorexia nervosa) in adolescent males and females, understanding the differences between dieting and restraint, obesity prevention in children, and the use of acceptance-based treatment with children and adolescents. She is currently Principal Investigator on a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) funded study that is developing a new acceptance based separated family treatment for adolescents with anorexia nervosa. She is a licensed psychologist in both Pennsylvania and Maryland.
