CEO of NY's Largest Addiction Treatment Provider On Safe Injection Sites: "New York City Is Leading the Way"

NEW YORK, NY (12/01/2021) (readMedia)-- Yesterday, two supervised injection sites - the first in the country - began operations in New York City. In response, Ann Marie Foster, CEO and president of Phoenix House of New York and Long Island, issued the following statement:

"Last year was the deadliest one for drug overdose deaths in American history, and now, New York City is leading the way with its two new safe injection sites. In just one day, two New Yorkers' lives were saved from potential overdose deaths because of these groundbreaking, yet necessary, spaces. I hope to see more safe injection sites open in New York and across the country. After losing 100,000 lives to overdose deaths in one year and the higher danger of substance use because of fentanyl's rising prevalence, this is exactly the kind of innovation we need."
