CM Torres + Common Cause/NY Demand BOE Halt Purchase of Expensive + Unnecessary Voting Machines

BOE too cozy with company, wasting tax dollars on unsecure and inefficient technology

NEW YORK, NY (04/19/2019) (readMedia)-- On Monday, Councilman Ritchie Torres, Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY, and New York Communities for Change will join together to demand the New York City Board of Elections (NYCBOE) stop its plan to purchase unnecessary and expensive voting machines from ES&S.

In late March, the NYCBOE quietly announced it needed new voting machines from ES&S for November's early voting while attempting to circumvent the State approval process. These machines are relatively untested and raise serious security concerns, among other objections.

Last year, Mike Ryan, Executive Director of NYCBOE, failed to disclose that he sat on the advisory board for ES&S and accepted all expenses paid trips from them.
