ALBANY, NY (03/26/2009)(readMedia)-- Nadine C. Jackson-Ivey, principal at Governor Clinton Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, NY, has been selected as the 2009 New York State Outstanding Educator by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS).
This award is given annually to a SAANYS member who has made outstanding contributions in New York State schools through public education, professional organizations, and research and/or writing in the field of education.
Jackson-Ivey has been an elementary-level administrator for 16 years, 14 of those years in his present position in Poughkeepsie. Governor Clinton Elementary is a K-5 school with an enrollment of 427 students. Prior to assuming her principalship at Governor Clinton, she was assistant principal in Wappingers Falls. Jackson-Ivey, a longtime veteran in the field of education, has made many contributions to the profession along the way through her tireless involvement in SAANYS. She has worked with diligence and dedication to improve academic achievement in her school and to build a vibrant learning community.
Jackson Ivey holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education, a master's in education, and CAS certification from SUNY New Paltz. Among other professional activities, she is a member of the SAANYS Executive Board, serves as vice-president for the Hudson Valley Region of the National Black Child Development Institute, and the National Association of Professional Women.
According to Clinton third grade teacher A. Malissa Turner, "Ms. Jackson-Ivey has the ability to create new and exciting visions about what an institution can be and then executes a plan to inspire and excite others to help make it come true. She is an advocate for children and an agent for change. Ms. Jackson-Ivey accomplishes these goals through establishing priorities, developing designs and programs, clarifying roles and responsibilities for every role player, and providing her unwavering support."
In a letter of recommendation, Natoya Williams, a parent and executive member of the Clinton PTA, commented on Jackson-Ivey's dedication saying, "Nadine's heart and intentions are always for learning and creating opportunities for everyone to learn and grow. Her persistence to bolster and stimulate the whole child through as many open venues as possible is greatly admired."
Jackson-Ivey will be honored for her accomplishments at an awards ceremony on May 1, 2009 at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs, New York.
SAANYS represents more than 7,000 school administrators, supervisors, and coordinators. As a professional association, SAANYS is committed to provide direction, service, and support to the membership in their efforts to improve the quality of education and leadership in New York State schools. SAANYS is affiliated with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
