CORRECTION: Buena Vista University Offering New Disney Course

Buena Vista University (BVU) is introducing PD magic: edmagineering the future of professional learning, a course combining theory and experiential assignments to introduce the creativity and imagineering of Walt Disney World.

Prerequisites for the course are a bachelor's or master's degree. The overall goal of this course is to provide students looking for professional development hours and credits with instructional methods, concepts, strategies and activities that they will be able to implement in their own classroom immediately.

"Collaboration, curiosity, critical and design thinking and storytelling are all important 21st century skills," said Jerry Johnson, BVU assistant professor of digital media. "In this three credit course, we'll explore how Walt Disney embodied these traits and how he inspired others around him to help build his Magic Kingdom," he said.

This course requires 30 hours of online and face-to-face learning. The online portion will consist of lectures, interactive activities, research investigations, media/literacy projects, teamwork and collaboration between classmates and instructors.

Student learning outcomes include:

• Recognize, design, create, implement and model, the 5 C's (curiosity, creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking) of 21st century learning in the classroom

• Design and develop innovative lessons that incorporate creativity, storytelling, digital age learning experiences and utilizing storytelling

• Understand and implement how to engage in professional growth and leadership
