CORRECTION - DOT Supervisor Taps State Gas Pump To Fill Personal SUV
ALBANY, NY (01/16/2009)(readMedia)-- A maintenance supervisor faces grand larceny charges after he allegedly gassed up his personal Ford Excursion more than 30 times at a state pump throughout 2008, New York State Inspector General Joseph Fisch announced today.
Abraham Visscher, 40, of Montour Falls in Schuyler County, is accused of using state fuel to operate his 2001 Excursion. DOT operates gas stations statewide to provide fuel for state-owned vehicles and equipment. Ford's largest SUV, the Excursion, averages 15 mpg and was discontinued in 2004.
Visscher told investigators from the Inspector General's office that he repeatedly put gas into his Excursion tank at the state pump as gas prices spiked. He is accused of stealing more than $2000 worth of state fuel.
A 15-year state employee, Visscher was arraigned before Montour Justice Don Spaccio and later released on $2,000 bail. HE HAS NOT YET BEEN PLACED ON SUSPENSION, ACCORDING TO DOT OFFICIALS.
