POTSDAM, NY (09/08/2014)(readMedia)-- Community Performance Series will celebrate its 25th anniversary season with an incredible array of performances featuring sought-after artists, beginning this month.

CPS is pleased to kick off its 25th anniversary season with a performance by Chick Corea & The Vigil on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.

The 2014-15 CPS Guest Artist Series will bring six celebrated performing groups to Potsdam. First among them will be the 20-time Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist, Chick Corea, whose program will feature works from his 2013 album, "The Vigil." Corea, who is a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, will be joined by Tim Garland on saxophone, Charles Altura on guitar, Marcus Gilmore on drums, Carlitos Del Puerto on bass and Luisito Quintero on percussion. This formidable team of musicians has been touring the "The Vigil" worldwide.

On Oct. 19, Caroline Robinson will perform as the 15th organist in the annual Ranlett Organ Recital. Robinson is a new star in the classical music world. A Fulbright Scholar, she has studied organ at the Curtis Institute and the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Règional de Toulouse in France. In addition to her Sunday performance on the Hosmer Hall organ, Robinson will lead an information session about the organ on Saturday, Oct. 18. Both events will take place at 3 p.m.

Proving that everything old can be new again, pianist Scott Bradlee became a YouTube sensation with his project, the Postmodern Jukebox. Taking current pop songs and arranging them in them in alternate style, such as '50s doo woop, jazz or country, this just may be the only band that has the ability to appeal to children, parents and grandparents in one sitting! Postmodern Jukebox will appear in Hosmer Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The CPS Guest Artist Series will continue in November, with a performance by the renowned female vocal ensemble Anonymous 4, singing a diverse program of music across the ages, on Saturday, Nov. 22.

The highly-requested Béla Fleck will make a return visit to Potsdam on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, along with the 30-piece chamber orchestra, The Knights, for an unforgettable program.

CPS will close the season with a performance by the six-time Tony Award- and two-time Grammy Award-winning artist, Audra McDonald, on Saturday, April 11, 2015.

CPS will also continue its youth and family programming in its 25th season, with the 2014-15 Meet The Arts series.

This year's programs include "Miles Davis and the Blue Flame Incident," on Nov. 7; "Toying with Science," a circus-like show that explores elementary science, on Feb. 8 and 9, and a theatrical adaptation of the classic novel, "To Kill A Mockingbird," on May 7. CPS will also continue its partnership with the Orchestra of Northern New York, by presenting a children's concert and the annual instrument petting zoo on March 13.
