CANANDAIGUA, NEW YORK (05/16/2025) (readMedia)-- CSEA, AFSCME Leaders, 1199 SEIU Health Care Workers to urge Rep. Tenney to vote against draconian Public Service Cuts to pay for Billionaire Tax Breaks

CANANDAIGUA, NEW YORK – On Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 12pm, CSEA, AFSCME leaders and health care workers from New York's 24th Congressional District will hold a press conference detailing how millions of working families will suffer if Congress cuts public services to pay for billionaire tax cuts.

The press conference is scheduled to take place on the eve of an anticipated vote by the House Ways and Means Committee, of which Rep. Tenney is a member. A "yes" vote supports advancing a budget plan that cuts essential public services from education to health care to infrastructure, impacting all New Yorkers including workers, children, people with disabilities, veterans, and senior citizens.

Speakers will discuss how anti-union extremists in Congress are leading the charge on a budget that would raise costs and hurt programs our communities rely on to pay for more tax cuts for billionaires. For example, the budget Rep. Tenney is expected to vote on will require cuts to essential programs such as Medicaid, which hospitals, nursing homes and other critical health care services rely on, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), putting nearly 670,000 New Yorkers at risk of losing food assistance through the program, including 19,000 people represented by Rep. Tenney in New York's 24th Congressional District.
