CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan: Disgusting Federal Budget Betrays New Yorkers

ALBANY, NY (07/03/2025) (readMedia)-- In a disgraceful display of misplaced priorities, Congress has passed a federal budget that rips critical support away from those who need it most - all to hand out tax cuts to billionaires.

"This budget isn't just bad policy - it's a moral failure," said CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan. "By voting for this bill, members of Congress chose billionaires over children, families, seniors, and workers. They chose to gut SNAP and Medicaid, taking food from hungry kids and stripping healthcare from the most vulnerable people in our communities."

This budget guts SNAP for families and children and slashes Medicaid, putting over a million New Yorkers at risk. It threatens safety-net hospitals and nursing homes, leading to staffing shortages, longer wait times, and even closures. CSEA members keep New York running, from public health to social services to emergency response, but these cuts will undermine the vital services we provide every day.

"These cuts won't just harm those most in need, they will ripple through every corner of our state," she added. "When public services collapse, it affects us all. Congress had a choice. They could have protected working people and their families. Instead, they sided with the richest Americans and left the rest of us to pay the price."
