CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan: Federal cuts will put millions at risk
ALBANY, NY (07/01/2025) (readMedia)-- The budget reconciliation bill passed by the U.S. Senate today-by a tie-breaking vote-will result in billions of dollars in cuts to federal aid and impose new costs on New York State. This harmful legislation threatens critical programs like Medicaid and SNAP, putting the well-being of millions of New Yorkers at risk.
As the bill returns to the House of Representatives, CSEA is calling on every member of New York's congressional delegation to stand up for working people and vulnerable communities by voting NO on these devastating cuts.
"The New York House delegation has the chance to do the right thing and vote no on this bill," said CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan. "These cuts will devastate services and programs that millions of New Yorkers rely on every day. New Yorkers are at risk, but our members of Congress now have the chance to protect the people who they serve by rejecting this legislation!"
This bill threatens services across New York, including the state's safety-net hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities that depend on Medicaid funding. Cuts to these institutions will lead to staffing shortages, longer wait times, reduced services and even facility closures. It also jeopardizes the ability of state and local governments to provide the vital services that CSEA members deliver every day.
