CALUMET CITY, ILL. (10/21/2016)(readMedia)-- – Pvt. Venecia A. Byrd, of Calumet City, Illinois, was sworn into the Illinois Army National Guard Oct. 20 at the St. Louis Military Entrance Processing Station.

Byrd enlisted as a 91J, Quartermaster and Chemical Repairer, and will be assigned to Company M, Recruit Sustainment Program based in Shiloh, Illinois.

She will attend basic combat training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and advanced individual training at Fort Lee, Virginia.

Byrd will also receive 100 percent free college tuition with the Illinois National Guard Grant and the Select Reserve Montgomery G.I. Bill.

Her parents and friends, said they are proud of her decision to serve her country and community. The Recruiting and Retention Battalion and Company M congratulated Byrd and welcomed her into the Illinois Army National Guard.
