Campbellsville University Somerset Center honors grads and announces a new summer Communication Institute

SOMERSET, KY (05/13/2015)(readMedia)-- President Michael V. Carter told graduates at a special celebration in their honor at the CU Larry and Beverly Noe Somerset Education Center, "I'm proud of your commitment to pursue your dreams and your courage to continue. Campbellsville University will always be your alma mater and you should look upon her as a great friend for life."

Guest speaker Dr. H. Keith Spears, CU vice president for graduate and professional studies, said, "You have earned an educational degree, tools that are provided to you, tools that can help you take your stand on the front lines in your special areas." He told the students to never give up.

A special announcement was made for the Somerset Center. Starting in June, Campbellsville University will be establishing a Summer Communication Institute at the Somerset Center. The tentative list of courses to be offered include: MAC 175 Broadcasting and Digital Media; ENG 111 Composition I; Christ Culture and Social Media; Business Management; Producing Films for the Internet; Photography; and HP sport and media.

Graduates recognized by Dr. Frank Cheatham, senior vice president for academic affairs, and by Paula Smith, director of alumni relations included:

Criminal justice: Rebecca Nolan, Ashley Anderson, Carl Coffman, Greg Cooper, Dennis Gilbert and Lisa Stinson.

Early childhood education: Rita Cox, Lori Parker, Angela Wagers, Courtney Anderson, Bridget Clark, Shelly Dyer and Krissy McQueen (IECE).

Social work: Sarah Alvarez, Donald Branscum, Derrick Chaney, Hanna Dodson, Rebecca Hammond, Kathy Harness, Alisha Williams, Mercer Tonya, Spencer Pride, Karen Bhatti, James Hadley, Chastity Leanne Jones, Ashley Keller and Kristy Parmley.

The Larry and Beverly Noe Somerset Education Center, dedicated on October 15, 2013, developed from the close association with Somerset Community College so that students could complete their degrees without having to leave the area. CU's Noe Center houses programs in business administration, criminal justice, early childhood education, interdisciplinary early childhood education and social work. Currently the center has four classrooms, a chapel area and a computer lab. The Noe Center has two full-time faculty members, two admissions counselors and a team of professors advancing the Christ centered education mission of Campbellsville University.
