Campbellsville University to graduate over 400 students next week

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (05/06/2016)(readMedia)-- More than 400 students will graduate Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14 in three separate ceremonies at Campbellsville University. There were 221graduates in December for the 2015 fall graduation.

This year's graduation speaker on Saturday is Dr. Joseph L. Owens, five-time chair of Campbellsville University's Board of Trustees. Owens, a native of Lebanon, Ky., is the longest serving chair of the board in the history of the university.

Owens graduated from Campbellsville College in 1977 with a bachelor of arts in Christian studies. He is the recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award.

According to Dr. Donna Hedgepath, vice president for academic affairs, the number of May graduates will increase as students continue to get their paperwork together. Currently, there are 410 students scheduled to receive their diplomas upon all completion of graduation requirements.

The first of three graduations will be Friday, May 13 at 7 p.m. in Ransdell Chapel for those receiving master's degrees. There are 128 students scheduled to receive their degrees.

The second ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 14 in the Powell Athletic Center for 156 students receiving bachelor of science degrees.

The third and final graduation for the 2016 spring semester will be Saturday, May 14 at noon. It will also be in Powell Athletic Center for 126 students receiving associate of science, associate degrees in nursing, bachelor of arts, bachelor of music, bachelor of science in business administration, bachelor of science in nursing and bachelor of social work degrees.

Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of Campbellsville University, will give welcoming remarks at the ceremonies.

There will be a graduation walk and a graduation dinner hosted by Campbellsville University. The graduation walks will begin 15 minutes before each ceremony and will be led by Carter, Hedgepath and the Campbellsville University faculty. The graduation walks are a traditional event during which graduates have one last walk around campus before their commencement ceremony.

The graduation dinner will be Friday, May 13 in Winters Dining Hall.

In the event of an overflow crowd, the upstairs room in the Hawkins Athletic Complex is reserved with live television coverage provided by WLCU Television. There is also a cry room for babies just outside the gymnasium in the Tuggle-Morris Wellness Center.
