Dr. James C. Perkins, president of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, to speak at Campbellsville University Sept. 9.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (08/31/2015)(readMedia)-- Dr. James C. Perkins, pastor of Greater Christ Baptist Church and president of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, will speak on Campbellsville University's campus on Wednesday, Sept. 9 in Ransdell Chapel at 10 a.m. Ransdell Chapel is located at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.

Perkins was ordained into the ministry in 1974, and he has served at the Greater Christ Baptist Church in Detroit, Mich. for 30 years. He received his doctor of ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio in 1990.

Perkins fulfills speaking at churches, seminaries and conferences across the United States and abroad.

He is the author of numerous books including "Building Up Zion's Walls: "Ministry for Empowering the African American Family and "Playbook for Christian Manhood: 12 Key Plays for Black Teen Boys" published by Judson Press (Valley Forge, Penn.).

His writings have been included in both secular and Christian publications such as Black Enterprise, USA Today, Ebony, American Baptist and The African American Pulpit.

Perkins founded the Fellowship Nonprofit Housing Corporation in 1992 as a vehicle for community economic development. In spring 2006, Providence Place, $10 million development that provides 50 single family homes for low and middle income families.

Perkins instituted the Benjamin E. Mays Male Academy, a Christian school for boys, in 1993. The academy serves kindergarten through sixth grade students.

Also, Perkins has served on numerous boards. He is the 20th president of the Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc. He is a past president of the Michigan Progressive Baptist Convention and a member of the Detroit Baptist Pastors Council, Detroit Chapter National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

Perkins was also a recipient of the Ghandi, King and the Ikeda Community Builders Prize from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga., and the Minister of the Year Award, Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the Benjamin E. Mays Award, the Charles Andrew Hill Achievement Award, Michigan Chronicle's Pastor's Salute Award, Who's Who in Black Detroit (Inaugural Edition) and the Outstanding Church Leadership Award.

Perkins is married to Linda Adkins Perkins and is the father of two daughters and the grandfather of one grandson.

Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and explosure through a variety of informative speakers and presentations.
