Campbellsville University to present 'The Drowsy Chaperone'

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (10/19/2017) (readMedia)-- Campbellsville University's Theater Department and Town Hall Productions will present "The Drowsy Chaperone" Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 26-29 at Russ Mobley Theater in the Alumni Building at 114 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.

The play will be performed Thursday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m.

A synopsis of the play, according to Musical Theatre International, follows:

"When a die hard theatre fan plays his favorite cast album, the characters come to life in this hilarious musical farce.

"With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and 'The Drowsy Chaperone' begins as the man in the chair looks on.

"Hailed by New York Magazine as 'The Perfect Broadway Musical,' 'The Drowsy Chaperone' is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre."

Town Hall Productions/Andrew Ward is the producer of the play. Starr Garrett, director and associate professor of theater at Campbellsville University, is directing the play with Dr. Bethany Stiles, assistant professor of voice at Campbellsville University, as music director.

Nathan Allen, assistant professor of theater at Campbellsville University, is the choreographer, and Cheryl Brumley, theater arts instructor at Campbellsville University, is technical director. Virginia Case of Berea, Ky., Betta Kim of Elizabethtown, Ky, and Ngozi Gardiner of Springfield, Tenn., are stage managers. Haley Saylor of Monticello, Ky., is costume manager.

The cast members include: James Mattingly of Danville, Ky. as Man in Chair; Diandra Sallee of Nicholasville, Ky. as Tottendale; Eric Zhao of China as Underling; Sarah Durham of Campbellsville as Drowsy;

Hollie Nall of Elizabethtown, Ky. as Janet; Daniel Bannister of Glasgow, KY as Robert; Les Chadwick of Campbellsville as George; Joseph Mattingly of Bardstown, Ky. as Feldzieg;

Janae Boling of Crestwood, Ky. as Kitty; Cody Campbell of LaGrange, Ky. as Aldolpho; Deja Thompson of Adairville, Ky. as Trix; CJ Calhoun of Frankfort, KY as superintendent;

Jeremiah Jackson of Campbellsville as Gangster 1; Noah Hutchins of Springfield, Ky. as Gangster 2; Khalil Baker of Hopkinsville, Ky., Jaleel Cowan of Campbellsville, Anjell Glenn of Monroe, N.C., Ryoma Inoue of Japan, Divine Oludi of Nigeria, and Natalie Shadrick of Paducah, Ky. are part of the ensemble.

General admission is for adults $10 with seniors (65 and up), children (12 and under) prices at $7. Employees of Campbellsville University can purchase tickets for $5.
