JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, NJ (10/08/2011)(readMedia)-- Thirty Soldiers from the New York Army National Guard's 501st Ordnance Battalion, headquartered in Glenville, New York, are back in the United States after a 10 month deployment in Iraq.
The unit arrived at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst today.
501st Ordnance Battalion Soldiers provided command and control for three explosive ordnance disposal companies operating in Southern Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. The unit is a headquarters element and was responsible for counter IED operations and training Iraqi Police counter-explosives teams as the headquarters of Task Force Troy-South. They were based at Camp Alpha in Basra.
The unit left for federal active duty on October 27, 2010.
The Soldiers will be conducting out-processing at the Joint Base prior to returning to their home station in the Capitol Region at the Glenville Armed Forces Reserve Center.
The demobilization process normally takes approximately four or five days.
