Davis & Elkins College student Carissa Dunn presents her biology research during a forum on campus.

ELKINS, WV (06/22/2012)(readMedia)-- Carissa Dunn, daughter of Sandra Rose of Modesto, CA and a biology and chemistry major at Davis & Elkins College, recently gave a presentation on "Determining the Functional Role of Alternative Splicing in Cancer" to the campus community. Her talk was based on a research internship she completed at West Virginia University last summer.

While at WVU, Carissa worked in the Biochemistry department. Her paid internship included extensive work in developing procedures for making a lentivirus library using what is known as "hairpin" design, and closing and monitoring isoform replacement in the cells.

This summer Carissa, a 2009 graduate of Johansen High School, is working with another research program at the University of Utah.
