Carson Maki Receives Final Convocation Award

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2012)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 26, Hampden-Sydney College freshman Carson Tyler Maki received the Rhetoric Essay Award, presented by Dr. Lizabeth A. Rand, Elliott Associate Professor of Rhetoric. The annual Rhetoric Essay contest began in 1996. Each year members of the Rhetoric staff award a prize for the best essay written in each of three Rhetoric classes.
Carson's winning essay was entitled, "Aural Perception and Exhibits: The Rhetoric of Audio at the Virginia Aquarium." He graduated from Frank W. Cox High School and is the son of Shawn & Karla Maki of Virginia Beach.
A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
