Carthage resident Robert Marshall named Command Sergeant Major of New York Army National Guard Battalion

LATHAM, NY (05/05/2015)(readMedia)-- Carthage resident Robert Marshall, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and holder of the Combat Infantry Badge, has been named Command Sergeant Major of the New York Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry.

Marshall has served in the Army and the Army National Guard since 1987. He joined the New York Army National Guard's 1st Battalion 108th Infantry in1987 and transferred to active duty in 1992, serving in Army Ranger, Airborne, Air Assault, light infantry and mountain infantry units.

He rejoined the New York Army National Guard in 2004 and has served in numerous non-commissioned officer leadership positions within the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

Along with serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, he has deployed to Somalia, Haiti and Kosovo. His most recent deployment was to Afghanistan in 2012 as first sergeant for Company C 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry.

Among his awards are two awards of the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, NATO Medal, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Air Assault Badge, Master Parachutists Badge and Pathfinder Badge. He is a member of the Distinguished Audie Murphy Club.

He and his wife Heidi have four children: Nathan, Carissa, Natasha and Cole.
