Cartoon world, peaceful world, spiritual world at Bowers Writers House
Elizabethtown College venue brings to campus in February an animator, Peacemaker-in-Residence and advocate of Sufi mysticism
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (01/16/2014)(readMedia)-- Animation, peace and spiritualism are subjects of interest this February at Elizabethtown College's Bowers Writers House. All events are free and open to the public.
If you can picture your doodles as true art or you think cartoons are for just for kids visit Bowers Writers House at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, when award-winning animator and cartoonist Dash Shaw visits from New York City to talk about "Animation and Film." Shaw who has written "Bodyworld" and "Bottomless Belly Button," discusses his newest graphic novel, "New School," releases last year from Fantagraphics Books.
At 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, Jon Rudy, Elizabethtown College Peacemaker-in-Residence, shares narratives from his experience of traveling all over the world, working for peace and harmony. "The Cutting Edge of Peace" shares how Rudy learned from his mistakes while traveling through Asian and African countries. Privileged to participate in some of the unfolding stories told by heroes and heroines of peace, Rudy currently is intrigued by subtle energies, mystery, change processes and the role of the human heart in peace-building.
Dr. Stewart Bitkoff offers his own perspective on the spiritual nature of our lives and how a recognition of our spiritual essence is a wonderful thing when he visits Bowers Writers house at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21. Bitkoff, a spiritual traveler and longtime advocate of Sufi mysticism and the perennial philosophy, explores "Spiritualism and Sufism." His book, "Sufism for the Western Seeker" was published in 2011.

Bowers Writers House at Elizabethtown College, 840 College Hill Lane, was created with a generous gift by Kenneth L. '59 and Rosalie E. '58 Bowers to support a culture of creative curiosity and foster a new sense of excitement and enthusiasm for intellectual diversity.
