LATHAM, NY (10/03/2014)(readMedia)-- The Casey family of Granville has been named the Volunteer Family of the Year by the Capital District Chapter of the Association of the United States Army.

The award recognizes the family's service to the New York Army National Guard and the community in general.

Sgt. Major Tim Casey has served in the New York Army National Guard for 33 years and currently serves as chief medical Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge for the 42nd Infantry Division in Troy. He also works full-time as a civilian National Guard technician.

Tim Casey volunteers with the New York National Guard Child and Youth Program and their Teen Council, as well as with the Hartford Youth Commission as a coach for multiple sports. He is a member of AUSA, Hartford Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club and the Adirondack Runners Club.

Colleen Casey is a civilian employee working as the Lead Child and Youth Program Coordinator for the New York National Guard and is a state team member for the 4-H Military Partnerships. She holds a Masters Degree in Elementary Education.

Colleen Casey also volunteers as the Town of Hartford Letter Chairperson for the Washington County Children's Committee, as well as the Adirondack Runners Club. She is a member of the Hartford Ridge Snowmobile Club and the Adirondack Runners.

Tim and Colleen's daughter Chanleigh Casey joined the New York Army National Guard in May, 2012 and was awarded Expert Rifleman while at Basic Training.

She holds the rank of specialist and serves with the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade in Latham. She recently returned from a year-long deployment to Kuwait.

She holds a Bachelors degree in Sociology/Anthropology with a minor in Psychology. She is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Child and Adolescent Development and Sports Psychology. She is a member of AUSA and Adirondack Runners Club. Chanleigh volunteers with the New York National Guard Child and Youth Program and the Hartford Youth Commission as a softball and basketball coach.

The Casey's daughter Kayla is a recent graduate from Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island and holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration.

She accomplished this in three years while maintaining a 3.96 GPA. Currently, Kayla works as a Management Trainee for Enterprise. She is also a member of and volunteers for the Adirondack Runners Club. Kayla also volunteers with Save The Bay, WaterFire, and Carl G. Lauro Elementary School, as well as with the NY National Guard Child and Youth Program.

Lucas Casey is his 8th grade class President. He is a member of the NY National Guard Teen Council, Science Club, Future Farmers of America (FFA), The Whitehall Jr. Rifle Club, The Hartford Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club, and The Adirondack Runners Club.

He plays basketball, soccer, baseball, enjoys fishing, hunting, and camping. He participates in chorus, AAU Basketball and competitive tractor pulling. Lucas volunteers with the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department, The Hartford Fish and Game Club and the NY National Guard Child and Youth Program.
