BATAVIA, NY (08/06/2014)(readMedia)-- The community is invited to Genesee Community College's Arcade Campus Center to help it celebrate its 20th anniversary on Friday, August 29, 2014. Activities begin at 1:30 p.m and will include a flag raising ceremony and an educational birds of prey program featuring live birds presented by Wild Spirit Education of Delevan. An exhibit highlighting the Campus Center's history will also be on display. Upstate Farms will be on hand with an ice cream machine.

In addition, the Genesee Community College Foundation will share information about the Creating Our Future Together Campaign, an effort to support scholarships for local students and an expansion project at the Batavia Campus. All activities are FREE and open to the public. The Arcade Campus Center is located at 25 Edward Street in Arcade.

Genesee Community College first started offering classes in the Village of Arcade in the 1980s at the local Pioneer School District. The success of those early classes and programs led to the 1994 opening of the dedicated GCC teaching and learning facility. In the past 20 years, hundreds of students from the Southern Tier of New York State have earned thousands of college credits at the Arcade Campus Center. This local access to higher education has provided area residents with a positive pathway to successful careers in a wide array of fields and industries.

In its two decades, the Arcade Campus Center has seen many changes including a comprehensive renovation in 2002 that increased capacity and brought expanded classrooms, two computer labs, SMART classrooms and videoconferencing. It also introduced an outdoor Memory Garden with a unique, student-designed and created sculpture as the center piece.

The community is invited to share memories and fun at the Arcade Campus Center 20th Anniversary Celebration on August 29, 2014. Discover why GCC is so much more in the Southern Tier!
