AIKEN, SC (04/25/2018) The University of South Carolina Aiken's 2018 Scholar Showcase was the largest yet in the 11-year history of the event.

More than 200 students participated in the annual celebration of research, which included oral and poster presentations. Students from across all disciplines shared the research they have conducted under the guidance of their faculty mentors.

"This lets students showcase their work in the humanities, sciences, nursing and business," said Dr. Bill Jackson who organizes the event on campus.

Offering undergraduates the opportunity to engage in relevant research is a longstanding priority for USC Aiken. Research allows them the chance to delve deeper into their areas of interest and offers experiential learning as early as their freshman year.

"Academics is important, but this hands-on learning is just as important," Jackson said. "These students have gotten their hands dirty and have supplemented their classroom knowledge.

"The opportunity to present their work is very exciting to them. We are very proud of each scholar represented."

USC Aiken alumna Celeste Suggs graduated in 1983 with a business administration degree and sponsors the event each year.
