Centerville Fudge Maker Wins State Fair Top Honors

DES MOINES, IA (08/15/2018) (readMedia)-- Robin Tarbell-Thomas of Centerville won first place in both the Chocolate and Non-Chocolate Fudge classes of competition in the Iowa's Best Fudge contest judged Tuesday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Tarbell-Thomas won first place in the Chocolate Fudge class. Harold Magg of Spirit Lake earned second place and Carole Miller of Otley claimed third place.

In the Non-Chocolate Fudge class of competition Tarbell-Thomas of Centerville won first place. Douglas Jontz of Hiawatha claimed second place and Linda Sargent of Ankeny earned third place. Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Carol Shafer of Norwalk.

Entries were judged on flavor, appearance and texture.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
