Chadron State College Groups En Route to London

CHADRON, NE (05/13/2009)(readMedia)-- Forty Chadron State College students and six faculty members left Monday for a two-week trip to London as part of the college's expanding international studies program.

Fifteen of the students are criminal justice majors, 13 are education majors and 12 are business majors. Each group will visit many of the primary attractions in the London area and also have separate tours that pertain to its area of emphasis.

This is the 33rd year that Chadron State criminal justice majors have visited London. No one is happier to be making the trip than Dr. George Watson, longtime CSC criminal justice professor who led the first 31 visits, but missed last year's experience while he was overcoming pancreatic cancer. Also helping lead the trip is Dr. Tracy Nobiling, another criminal justice professor. This is the ninth time she has visited London.

Highlights of the criminal justice tour include police headquarters and training centers, courts and corrections facilities.

This is the first time CSC business students have gone to London in several years. Primary stops will include Lloyd's of London and the London Metal Exchange, the oldest and only remaining live trading floor in the United Kingdom. Two professors, Dr. Barbara Limbach and Dr. Jamie Waldo, are leading the students.

The trip aboard is believed to be the first for CSC students who are training to become teachers. They will visit three primary and secondary schools besides touring Cambridge and Oxford Universities with the other members of the CSC group. Dr. Patti Blundell, an education professor, and Christin Covello, a graduate assistant, are accompanying the education majors.

Watson is pleased that this year's trip includes students from disciplines other than criminal justice.

"In today's world, international experience is so valuable," Watson said. "I'm sure that all the students will learn things that will help them with their careers. It's great that Chadron State is expanding its international opportunities."

Nearly all the CSC travelers will leave London this weekend to visit either Edinburgh or Paris. The group will return to Chadron on May 25.
