Chadron State College Wildlife Professor Chosen for Leadership Institute

CHADRON, NE (06/03/2009)(readMedia)-- Dr. Teresa Zimmerman, Chadron State College assistant professor, has been chosen by The Wildlife Society to attend its annual Leadership Institute. The event will be during the TWS Annual Conference in Montery, Calif., in September.

Zimmerman, who teaches CSC's wildlife management courses, is one of 15 early-career wildlife professionals who were chosen to participate in a variety of distance learning and hands-on projects. The projects will culminate in intensive mentoring activities and leadership workshops at the conference.

"It is well known in the profession that nearly 70 percent of our leaders are projected to retire in the next decade," said Dr. Michael Hutchins, executive director and CEO of TWS. "We established the Leadership Institute in 2006 to address the upcoming shortage because we feel we have a responsibility to prepare our members to meet this pressing need."

Also selected for the institute was CSC alumnus Nick Kaczor, a native of Clearwater who graduated from CSC in 2005. He is employed by the Bureau of Land Management in Wyoming.

A committee of TWS members and staff selected participants based on the applicants' academic record, demonstrated leadership capability or potential and demonstrated level of excellence in their current position, or in a chapter or section of The Wildlife Society.
