Challenging Powerful Business Council, New Ad Campaign Urges Gov Hochul to Move Full Speed Ahead on Climate

Spring Street Climate Fund launches first in an ad series showing how NY climate policy helps everyday New Yorkers; First ad features Long Island homeowner who installed solar panels thanks to State programs and now saves hundreds per month on energy bills

ALBANY, NY (01/02/2024) (readMedia)-- Today, weeks after the powerful Business Council announced an information campaign trying to slow down New York's climate plan, Spring Street Climate Fund is hitting the airwaves with a direct response: the first in a series of ads featuring everyday New Yorkers who are benefitting from New York's climate policies, urging Governor Hochul to implement the state's climate plan without hesitation or delay. The first ad features Enos from Bellport, Long Island, whose electricity bills plummeted to $15 per month after support from New York helped him install solar panels on his home.

"Corporate polluters are trying to unravel New York's powerful climate plan, but we're not going to let them get away with it," said John Raskin, President of Spring Street Climate Fund, the nonprofit organization that is running the new ad campaign. "Climate policy saves money and saves lives. New Yorkers are already seeing lower energy bills and healthier homes from New York's climate policies, and our state's climate plan will save thousands of dollars per family if it's fully implemented in the coming years. With this new statewide ad campaign, we're asking Governor Hochul to say no to the corporate polluters, say yes to protecting New Yorkers, and to move full speed ahead on implementing our climate plan."

In the first ad of the series, Long Island homeowner Enos describes how New York's climate programs helped him afford solar energy and reduced his electricity bills from more than $200 per month to a mere $15. If the State's climate plan is fully enacted, State support will also help New Yorkers afford clean heating for homes and buildings, healthy transportation, public transit improvements, and other infrastructure upgrades that protect New Yorkers from polluted, unhealthy air and the devastating effects of climate change.

Spring Street's ad campaign is a direct response to a push launched by the powerful Business Council, an organization representing corporate interests including fracked gas polluters and other companies invested in maintaining the unhealthy status quo. The Business Council and other corporate interests have announced a multimedia effort pushing Governor Hochul to slow down climate action. In response, Spring Street's ad campaign will show vivid examples of how climate action helps New Yorkers in their day-to-day lives and will urge Governor Hochul to reject corporate lobbying and fully enact the Climate plan.

Spring Street's ad campaign will run on multiple platforms ahead of Gov. Hochul's State of the State address on January 9, 2024.
