Champlain College Offers Mobile Programming Certificate
Growing Mobile Market Creates Demand for Training
BURLINGTON, VT (06/02/2010)(readMedia)-- Champlain College's Continuing Professional Studies division will offer the region's only certificate in mobile programming beginning in September. The certificate will give students an understanding of users, technologies, devices, design principles and techniques unique to mobile and wireless software applications.
"As the use of mobile technology grows, there is an increased need for software designers and developers to create applications for mobile technologies," said Bob Green, assistant dean for information technologies and chief architect of the certificate. "We will teach students best practices for mobile design and development and make use of the custom technologies and techniques used to develop mobile and wireless software applications. Through hands-on practice students will design, develop and optimize applications for use on a variety of mobile devices."
Early courses in the 24-credit hour certificate draw upon already available foundational material required to provide students with an understanding of technologies that are common to both mobile and desktop computing environments. At that point, students are prepared to focus on the unique challenges of designing and developing mobile application techniques that take into consideration small screen size, limited system resources and the fact that users interact differently with mobile devices than they do with desktop applications.
Students will put these principles to use as they design and build mobile web applications and stand alone software applications for a variety of mobile platforms. Programming classes will teach students how to build applications using the core programming languages and frameworks associated with popular mobile platforms. Here students will utilize development software available from iPhone Developers University Program, Sun Microsystems, Microsoft, and others to design, build and test mobile applications.
