BURLINGTON, VT (09/03/2010)(readMedia)-- A creative mix of art will showcase the talents of Champlain College students, alumni, faculty and staff during the 18th annual South End Art Hop on Sept. 10 and 11.
Champlain College's Communication and Creative Media (CCM) Division is again the academic partner of the annual weekend arts event that brings thousands of people to Burlington's South End to experience the work of hundreds of local artists displaying their work in 100-plus expected and unexpected business and studio locations along Pine Street and the city.
Along with the traditional paintings and sculptures in the juried art show and sale, there will also be outdoor sculptures, musical jam sessions, dance, yoga, a make-your-own art and photography opportunities during the two-day celebration. Most events and galleries are free.
This year, Art Hop also features a "Kids Hop," at the Art Hop tent behind the Maltex Building on Pine Street. Davis Studios will be presenting a variety of art based activities for children on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Champlain College's Art Hop site is located at Champlain Valley Millworks, 16 Kilburn St. and will be open Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On display will be a collection of graphic design, painting, sculpture, photography, live musical performance, performance art and computer-based media.
There will be an interactive performance piece entitled "Identity Theft" by Assistant Dean of CCM Eric Ronis, and an Irish music performance by O'hAnleigh. Many artists and students will be on hand to talk about their work. Also showing during the weekend – a movie featuring Game Art student work from Amanda Crispel, Champlain College's program director of Game Design, and Game Art and Animation.
Champlain College's Emergent Media Center will showcase its new online game "Breakaway" a collaborative project with the United Nations and Population Media Center and its Google Map project in partnership with the City of Burlington.
