Champlain College Welcomes New Director of Career Services

Tanja Hinterstoisser is the new Director of Career Services at Champlain College in Burlington, Vt.

BURLINGTON, VT (07/30/2014)(readMedia)-- In her new role as Director of Career Services, Tanja Hinterstoisser says she was drawn to Champlain College because of the career focus embedded and infiltrated into all programs. "Champlain has the depth and specialization of a technically-minded school, but the multi-dimensional perspective of liberal arts," said Hinterstoisser.

In her new role, Hinterstoisser's objective is to continue strengthening the connections between Champlain College and its community. "There is a vibrant network of relationships existent in this community," she emphasized. Hinterstoisser looks forward to using a high-touch approach in creating meaningful opportunities for students and employers alike.

"Tanja Hinterstoisser exudes a mix of professional expertise, human touch and infectious enthusiasm that I know will serve her well at Champlain and in Vermont," said Vice President for Student Life Leslie Averill.

She has a strong base of career employment results to build on at Champlain, according the Averill, who recently shared the Career Outcomes Report for the Champlain College Class of 2013, reflecting data collected this past in May:

• One year after graduation, the class of 2013 has an employment rate of 93 percent, up 3 percent from the Class of 2012.

• Overall, 90 percent of graduates are in jobs related to their career goals, 80 percent found their jobs within six months of graduation, and 40 percent worked for their current employer before graduation through internships, part-time jobs or field experience.

• Working to give back to the Vermont community, 49 percent of out-of-state graduates have stayed in the state of Vermont.

• With our "human touch" approach, we obtained information on 87 percent of our Class of 2013 graduates.

Hinterstoisser says she already loves working with members of the growing and expanding Champlain College career services team., "The individuals have top-notch reputations at Champlain College and in the community. They are a dynamic, high-performing team." She described that the career services roles are demanding and multifaceted. Today's career advisors are asked to be teachers, mentors, counselors, coaches, and consultants at all once.

Prior to joining Champlain, Hinterstoisser spent eleven years at the University of Denver working in multiple roles, including six years of progressive leadership in Career Services at the Daniels College of Business, four years as an adjunct professor of psychology, and over two years as a member of an organizational consulting team. Her consulting role was focused on developing relationships within regional, national and international organizations on employment, talent and workforce development matters.

Hinterstoisser holds a M.A. in Community Counseling from Rollins College in Florida, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver. In her free time she enjoys literature, cuisine and the outdoors. Originally from Munich, Germany, with Austrian and Argentinian heritage, Hinterstoisser came to the United States for college. A humble polygot, she is well versed in career services, psychology, and languages.

"I'm eager to contribute to Champlain Colleges' vision to best prepare its students for their chosen careers," said Hinterstoisser.
