GRANVILLE, OH (04/11/2011)(readMedia)-- Denison University life trustee, Charles A. Brickman, member of the class of 1954, was presented with the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges' Earl F. Morris Trustee Award on Wednesday, April 6, during the foundation's 2011 Evening of Excellence. The award recognizes trustees of the organization's member colleges and universities "who have demonstrated commitment and service above and beyond the norm to the guidance and betterment of the institution and its students."

Brickman was named to Denison's Board of Trustees in 1973, became its chairman in 1983 and served in that capacity until 1998, retiring from active to life trustee status in 2007. He also served as vice-chair of the board and on three presidential search committees.

In describing Brickman, Denison president Dale T. Knobel said, "Chuck deserves this honor for his intelligence, his wisdom, his vision and his keen ability to steer an institution. Under his leadership, Denison stands today stronger, more focused and more ready to adapt to new challenges. He is the premier exemplar of the liberally educated person Denison aspires to foster."

Brickman is president of Pinnacle Capital Corporation, a venture capital company. He was with Kidder Peabody & Company for thirty years, as vice president, director and member of the board of directors.

Brickman and his wife Nancy, a member of the Denison class of 1954, have created two endowed funds and a professorship at the college: the Charles A. Brickman Excellence in Teaching Award, the Charles and Nancy Brickman Distinguished Service Chair and the Nancy Eshelman Brickman Endowed Professorship in memory of Dr. Ellenor Shannon.
