Chatham Soldier takes oath as next Assistant Adjutant General-Army

CHATHAM, IL (10/02/2015)(readMedia)-- CHATHAM, Ill. – Thomas R. Lamont, former United States Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs) and presently serving as the Vice Chair for the Commission on the Future of the U.S. Army, read Brig. Gen. Michael Zerbonia of Chatham, Illinois the oath of office at Camp Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois Oct. 1. Zerbonia was appointed by Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner to be the Assistant Adjutant General-Army for the Illinois National Guard. Zerbonia served with the Illinois State Police for 28 years with his last assignment as the ISP's Colonel of Operations.

Zerbonia formerly served as the Land Forces Component Commander for the Illinois Army National Guard until taking his current position as the ATAG. He also served as the commander of the Bilateral Embedded Staff Team A10 and as the deputy brigade commander for the Polish 12th Mechanized Brigade in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
